Language and Culture with Cory

Welcome to Language and Culture with Cory, LLC. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the Language and Culture with Cory website, courses, digital products, community features, and related services (collectively, the “Services”).

By accessing the website, purchasing a product, enrolling in a course, or participating in The Community, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use the Services.

1. Courses and Digital Products 

Language and Culture with Cory provides educational resources designed to support learners of the Japanese language and culture. Products may include online courses, video lessons, downloadable worksheets, and other digital learning materials.

Access periods vary by product and are stated at the time of purchase. For example, certain courses may provide access for a limited period, while downloadable products may be retained for personal use after purchase.

Course content, availability, features, and pricing may be updated or changed from time to time. Any applicable access period will be disclosed before purchase.

2. Required GENKI Textbook and Disclaimer

Certain courses offered by Language and Culture with Cory are designed to be used alongside GENKI: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese, Vol. 1, Third Edition. The GENKI textbook is not included with the purchase of the course. Students are responsible for purchasing their own copy of the required textbook to fully participate in and follow the lessons.

Language and Culture with Cory, LLC is independent of The Japan Times Publishing, Ltd. and the authors of the GENKI materials. Language and Culture with Cory is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by The Japan Times Publishing, Ltd. or the authors of GENKI. GENKI and its associated materials are the property of their respective rights holders.

3. Payment and Refunds

All prices are displayed in U.S. dollars unless otherwise stated. Payment is required at the time of purchase and is processed through the payment methods made available through the website or course platform.

Please review the product description, access period, and requirements before completing your purchase.

All purchases made through Language and Culture with Cory are final. Refunds, returns, and exchanges are not offered for courses, worksheets, digital downloads, or other digital products. 

Products and course materials are delivered digitally, and access is provided after purchase; customers gain access to the purchased content upon enrollment or delivery. For this reason, purchases are non-refundable once access has been provided, regardless of whether the customer chooses to view, complete, download, or otherwise use the materials. 

Downloadable products, including worksheets, are yours to keep after the purchase. Access to online courses and other non-downloadable materials is provided for the access period stated at the time of purchase. Purchasing a course does not grant permanent access unless specifically stated.

If you experience a technical problem that prevents you from accessing a product you purchased, please contact Language and Culture with Cory for assistance.

4. Accounts and Course Access

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and login information. Your account and access to purchased courses are intended for your individual use only.

You may not share your login credentials, provide another person with access to your account, or otherwise allow someone who has not purchased the applicable product to access paid course materials through your account.

If you believe your account has been accessed without your permission, please contact Language and Culture with Cory.

5. Personal Use and Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, all original course videos, lessons, worksheets, written materials, graphics, downloads, and other content provided by Language and Culture with Cory are owned by or licensed to Language and Culture with Cory and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

Your purchase gives you a limited right to use the materials for your own personal, noncommercial learning purposes. Purchasing a course or digital product does not transfer ownership of the content to you.

You may not copy, reproduce, redistribute, publish, upload, share, sell, modify, or commercially use course materials without prior written permission from Language and Culture with Cory. You may print or download materials when that functionality is provided for your personal use.

These types of restrictions are also a major component of the reference Terms, which distinguish purchasing access from acquiring ownership of the underlying educational content. 

6. The Community

The Community is intended to be a welcoming and respectful space where members can learn, ask questions, share experiences, and connect with others interested in Japanese language and culture.

By participating in The Community, you agree to communicate respectfully and contribute to a positive learning environment. Members may not post, send, or share content that is harassing, threatening, discriminatory, hateful, sexually explicit, intentionally offensive, or otherwise inappropriate.

Personal attacks, bullying, spam, repeated disruptive behavior, and disrespect toward Cory or other members of The Community are not permitted. Members should also respect the privacy of others and should not share another member's personal information or Community content outside of The Community without permission.

Language and Culture with Cory reserves the right to moderate The Community and remove posts, comments, or other content that violates these Terms or interferes with the learning environment.

Members who violate these guidelines may receive a warning or have their access to The Community temporarily suspended or permanently removed, depending on the nature and severity of the behavior. Language and Culture with Cory reserves the right to remove a member immediately when necessary to protect Cory, other members, or the Community.

Removal from The Community does not automatically terminate access to separately purchased course content unless the conduct also violates another provision of these Terms or warrants termination of the user's account.

The reference Terms similarly establish prohibited conduct and reserve moderation/removal rights for interactive features, although this version is tailored much more specifically to Cory's Community.

7. Educational Disclaimer

Language and Culture with Cory provides educational content intended to help users learn and better understand Japanese language and culture.

Individual learning experiences and results will vary. Language and Culture with Cory does not guarantee that completing a course or using its materials will result in a particular level of Japanese proficiency, test score, certification, academic result, employment opportunity, or other specific outcome.

Users are responsible for how they apply the information and materials provided through the Services.

8. Third-Party Products, Links, and Affiliate Disclosure

The website and course materials may contain links to third-party websites, products, or services. Language and Culture with Cory does not control these third parties and is not responsible for their content, availability, policies, products, or services. Purchases made through third-party websites are subject to the terms, policies, shipping practices, and return policies of those third parties.

Language and Culture with Cory participates in affiliate programs and may earn a commission from qualifying purchases made through certain links, at no additional cost to you. Affiliate links are identified where they appear on the website or within course materials. 

9. Availability of the Services

Language and Culture with Cory works to keep its website, courses, and digital materials available and functioning properly, but uninterrupted access cannot be guaranteed.

Access may occasionally be affected by maintenance, technical problems, internet outages, third-party platforms, or circumstances outside of reasonable control.

Language and Culture with Cory may also update, modify, replace, or discontinue features or materials as the Services develop, subject to any rights you may have under applicable law.

10. Suspension or Termination

Language and Culture with Cory reserves the right to restrict, suspend, or terminate access to the Services when a user violates these Terms, misuses course materials, shares account access, engages in fraudulent activity, seriously or repeatedly violates Community standards, or otherwise uses the Services in a way that may harm Language and Culture with Cory or its users.

Where appropriate, Language and Culture with Cory may provide a warning or an opportunity to correct the issue before access is terminated. Serious violations may result in immediate action.

Termination for a violation of these Terms does not automatically entitle the user to a refund.

The reference Terms likewise provide for suspension or termination when users violate the Terms or misuse access.

11. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

The Services are provided for educational purposes and are offered on an “as is” and “as available” basis to the extent permitted by law.

Language and Culture with Cory does not guarantee that the Services will always be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device, browser, or internet connection.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Language and Culture with Cory will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from your use of or inability to use the Services.

Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit any rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited under applicable law. 

12. Governing Law

These Terms and your use of the Services are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable law requires otherwise.

13. Changes to These Terms

Language and Culture with Cory may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to the Services, business practices, or legal requirements.

When changes are made, the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page will be revised. Material changes may also be communicated through the website, course platform, or other appropriate means.

Your continued use of the Services after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.

14. Privacy

We may collect information you provide, such as your name, email, address, account information, and information submitted through the contact form. Information necessary to complete purchases may also be collected and processed through the platforms used to provide our products and services.

Your information is only used for legitimate business purposes, such as processing purchases, providing access to your account and purchased materials, responding to messages, providing customer support, and communicating with you about Language and Culture with Cory. We may also use information as necessary to maintain the website and comply with legal or business requirements.

Your email address may be used for communications related to your account, purchases, questions, courses, or other Language and Culture with Cory business. If you receive promotional emails, you may unsubscribe from those communications at any time. 

Language and Culture with Cory does not sell your personal information to third-party businesses. Information may be shared with trusted service providers only when necessary to operate the website, process purchases, or provide other business services. These providers may handle information according to their own privacy policies.
